The Lecture commences with the general knowledge of French wine which provides an understanding and appreciation of the wine culture in France; its production and export trading among other aspects. Secondly, you will be shown on how to recognise the various wine regions of France. Finally, the discussion of the wine making process that transforms wine grapes into the « drink of the gods ».
Following the theory of the art of French wine, a tasting will be offered which may give you a different outlook on the selected wines and their individual taste. Tasting wine does not have to be a speciality. There is, however, a vast vocabulary that explains what one’s strictly connected senses feel: your sight, your smell and your taste. Therefore, wine tasting has to be understood as a very interactive process. In order to fully enjoy a wine tasting, one has to respect certain rituals. Gestures have to be adapted and it is recommended to exclude other smells that may hinder with the smell of the wine. To clear one’s palette, eating bread between each wine is also recommended.
