French + culture

Do you wish to deepen your knowledge of French culture? ESL Lyon invites you to participate in the "Introduction to French culture" programme in addition to your morning French classes. This optional course, composed of 3 independent modules, is designed for those who love, those who are passionate about and those who are curious about French culture. According to your interests, you can choose to participate in 1, 2 or 3 modules.

If the cultural attractions of a city are a priority for you during your travels, then choose the "Lyon heritage" option. Lyon, a city with over 2000 years of history, at the crossing of the paths of Europe, deserves to be known and explored. It contains numerous architectural treasures, and so many small hidden jewels. We guide you through its old districts in order to admire the splendid trompe l’œil painted walls and to discover its famous and mysterious traboules, which have been in existence for centuries.

French culture is also, as you know, cinema and French song. Who hasn’t heard of "Amélie", of "La vie en Rose" or of Serge Gainsbourg?

Cinema was born in Lyon, thanks to the Lumière brothers and to their genius. The Lumière festival was created (and inaugurated by Clint Eastwood) in 2009 in order to give back its patents of nobility to the city of Lyon. Within ESL Lyon, you have the opportunity to participate in a module dedicated to cinema, from its origins to nowadays.

And French song?

With Aznavour as the original soundtrack to American films, Edith Piaf (La Môme) at the Oscars in Hollywood and Patricia Kaas a star in Russia, French song continues to tour of the world. It is very often inspired by classical literature, by poetry and allows for strong messages to be conveyed. Come to discover or rediscover the beauty of great texts by choosing this module.
