With 4 national languages, Switzerland has a long tradition of language learning and teaching. French is the language spoken throughout the west of the country. This French-speaking region is called "Suisse romande" and counts approximately one and a half million inhabitants. The most well-known French-speaking cities are Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux.
